All Step Up chronicles the history of Cheshire’s Manley Morris Dancers.
With over 300 photographs and other illustrations, half of them in colour, this 200-page book documents the activities of the Manley Morris Dancers, decade by decade, showing the changing membership of the team, the changing type of dancing engagement and the ups and downs in the team’s fortunes. There are chapters on how and why the team started in 1934, the dance figures and the music.
The book also traces the origins of the dance style in Lancashire in the 19th century, in particular the area around Royton and Oldham.
The dancing took the Manley Morris Dancers to London’s Royal Albert Hall, to success at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod, to festivals in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Lithuania and Norway, as well as to fetes and carnivals in Cheshire.
Author Derek Schofield was a member of the Manley Morris Dancers from 1977 until the team disbanded in 2006.
